By KATHIANNE BONIELLO for NY Post

(NY Post) – A Brooklyn nurse claims she was forced to choose between her religious convictions and her job when Mount Sinai Hospital ordered her to assist in a late-term abortion against her will.

The hospital even exaggerated the patient’s condition and claimed the woman could die if the nurse, a devout Catholic, did not follow orders, the nurse alleges in a lawsuit.

“It felt like a horror film unfolding,” said Catherina Cenzon-DeCarlo, 35, who claims she has had gruesome nightmares and hasn’t been able to sleep since the May 24 incident.

The married mother of a year-old baby was 30 minutes into her early-morning shift when she realized she had been assigned to an abortion. She begged her supervisor to find a replacement nurse for the procedure. The hospital had a six-hour window to find a fill-in, the suit says.

Bosses told the weeping Cenzon-DeCarlo the patient was 22 weeks into her pregnancy and had preeclampsia, a condition marked by high blood pressure that can lead to seizures or death if left untreated.

The supervisor “claimed that the mother could die if [Cenzon-DeCarlo] did not assist in the abortion.”

But the nurse, the niece of a Filipino bishop, contends that the patient’s life was not in danger. She argued that the patient was not even on magnesium therapy, a common treatment for preeclampsia, and did not have problems indicating an emergency.

Her pleas were rejected, and instead she was threatened with career-ending charges of insubordination and patient abandonment, according to the lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Brooklyn federal court.

Feeling threatened, Cenzon-DeCarlo assisted in the procedure.

She said she later learned that the hospital’s own records deemed the procedure “Category II,” which is not considered immediately life threatening.

“I felt violated and betrayed,” she recalled. “I couldn’t believe that this could happen.”

A native of the Philippines, Cenzon-DeCarlo moved to New York in 2001 and started at Mount Sinai on the East Side as an operating-room nurse in 2004. During her job interview, an administrator asked Cenzon-DeCarlo whether she’d be willing to participate in abortions. She flatly said no.

The nurse said she put her beliefs in writing.

The day after the procedure, Cenzon-DeCarlo filed a grievance with her union. Later that week, she was cornered by two supervisors who told her if she wanted any more overtime shifts, she would have to sign a statement agreeing to participate in abortions, the suit says.

The next month, Cenzon-DeCarlo was assigned to one overtime shift, rather than the eight or nine she usually received, the suit claims.

Although the Brooklyn resident is still working at Mount Sinai, she’s asking a court to order the hospital to pay unspecified damages, restore her shifts and respect her objections to abortion.

“I emigrated to this country in the belief that here religious freedom is sacred,” Cenzon-DeCarlo said. “Doctors and nurses shouldn’t be forced to abandon their beliefs and participate in abortion in order to keep their jobs.”

Providing legal advice for her action is the Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian group seeking to put a national spotlight on the case. The suit also seeks to force Mount Sinai to give up federal funding it receives, because it failed to uphold a federal rule protecting employees who have moral objections to controversial procedures.

Mount Sinai said it would not comment.

Galen Sherwin, the director of the New York Civil Liberties Union’s Reproductive Rights Project, said the case centered on whether a medical emergency existed.

“The law provides protections for individuals who object to performing abortions, but at the same time, health-care professionals are not permitted to abandon patients,” Sherwin said.

This is sad but it is the world that we live in. Pray for the nurse that she repents. The line has been drawn and either you are going to stand for righteousness or for wickedness. Be careful of the descions that you make because it may cost you more than you know!

by: Tiffany

06.07.10

In the United States, the legalities of teenage abortion (for females under 18) are decided on a state by state basis. Though abortion procedures are nationally legal for teens, some states require parental notification and others require notification and permission. Some also require a 24-hour waiting period.

Some sources report that each year one million American teenagers become pregnant, and 78% of these pregnancies are unintended. Four in every five American girls begin having intercourse before age 20. Why such high percentages? Many of these young women have little to no understanding of their bodies, emotions and spirituality, so they’ve begun having sexual intercourse before knowing the consequences.

Having an abortion is a life-altering decision. It not only may forever alter the life of the mother but also takes the life of what was meant-to-be a child. Many young teens (and women in general) suffer life-long effects from abortion. To name a few, studies show that abortion can lead to increased chances of breast cancer, severe depression, ever-lasting guilt feelings and an eternal feeling of void. Abortions also occur with complications; these have resulted in death.

If one is considering abortion, we must always look at all the options, alternatives, and consequences of our choices. We can learn from others the effects that may not have been disclosed by some organizations that promote abortions for the big money business that it is. They do not personally have to live out their lives with adverse feelings or the severe physical risks.

Pregnancy is not usually the planned course for a young girl’s life, but the alternatives to abortion will no doubt offer her a wide path back to the life she had envisioned. There are many life-keeping agencies available to help a teen take that path.

Is any abortion legal? That seems to be a question more perfectly answered by whose laws you are examining. By man’s law, yes, it’s legal though sometimes with restrictions. But by God’s laws, and his divine plan for each life, no – God has not legalized taking a life of a baby. Federal or state law might say it is now legal to abort a baby, but God’s view has not changed. His law says to take a life is murder. The abortion takes away a life He has planned and allowed to be conceived.

Teens Becoming Pregnant to Get on ‘Teen Mom’?

By Rob Shuter

Source: popeater.com

Now that ‘Teen Mom’ cast members like Amber Portwood are in their twenties, MTV is looking for a new crop of teenage girls to keep its monster hits ‘Teen Mom’ and ’16 and Pregnant’ alive, and [surprise!] industry insiders tell me young ladies are so eager to be on reality TV that they are actually getting pregnant just to score an audition. OK, not much of a surprise. Simply take a spin around the various Internet forums filled with young girls inquiring about what’s required to score a role.

“This is yet another example of the desperation of fame,” Matt Titus, a relationship expert fromTheLoveConsultants.com, tells me. “The sad state of reality television has created a lowbrow vehicle for untainted train wreck personalities to display their private lives. Getting pregnant to be famous is like eating as many cockroaches as possible in a one minute period.”

(Didn’t they do that on ‘Survivor’?)

Casting any reality show right is essential to whether it is a hit or not. Networks spend top dollar auditioning throughout the country to make sure they get the right mix. However, what makes ‘Teen Mom’ and ’16 and Pregnant’ both so difficult to cast is that, thankfully, the “talent pool” of potential stars that are both pregnant and teenagers is relatively small.

Mommy expert Beth Feldman, creator of RoleMommy.com, says it would be “horrifying” if teens are actually getting pregnant for a TV show. “Becoming a parent is a responsibility that no one should take lightly, and for a teenager to think that a pregnancy could lead to instant fame and fortune is absurd. Parenting is a lifetime commitment and teens have there own lives ahead of them. Let them grow up before they take the responsibility of caring for another human being.”

Rabbi Shmuely Boteach, a friend of the late Michael Jackson and author of ‘Kosher Sex,’ agrees. “This is out of control celebrity culture. Reality TV first began by exploiting people’s problems, assuming they would do anything for fame. The idea of teenage girls getting pregnant to be on television shows that reality TV is going a step beyond exploiting problems. It is now creating the problems.

Anyone who has had a child knows that it is the most serious commitment a person can make. Rabbi Shmuley correctly points out that when young girls begin making this ultimate decision in order find fame, it “shows the moral rot in American society.”

“These girls are ignoring the fact that this decision must followed by a lifetime of responsibility,” he says.

Maybe my friend Jane Velez-Mitchell, host of the hit HLN show ‘Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell,’ says it best: “Children should not be having children, period.”

09.15.10

Jill Stanek of www.wnd.com reports:

“In March 2002, then Illinois state Sen. Barack Obama and I engaged in an interesting exchange during my testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which he was a member.

I was speaking in favor of the Illinois Born Alive Infant Protection Act for the second time, which had failed the year before.

The previous year, I had told Obama and the committee of my experience holding a live aborted baby until he died in my capacity as a labor and delivery nurse at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill.”

That year, I described Christ Hospital’s Comfort Room, unveiled in December 2000 to counter my public statements that personnel were shelving babies to die in the department’s soiled utility room next to dirty linens, bloody and biohazardous waste, and a urinal:

Four months ago, Christ Hospital unveiled its “Comfort Room.” So now I can no longer say that live aborted babies are left in our Soiled Utility Room to die. We now have this prettily wallpapered room complete with a First Foto machine, baptismal gowns, a footprinter and baby bracelets, so that we can offer keepsakes to parents of their aborted babies. There is even a nice wooden rocker in the room to rock live aborted babies to death.

I did not mention the Comfort Room when I testified again in 2002. But Barack Obama remembered.

Of over 4,000 pieces of legislation introduced in the Illinois General Assembly in 2001, Obama apparently recalled my description of Christ Hospital’s Comfort Room. He stated, according to the State Net transcript:

Ms. Stanek, your initial testimony last year showed your dismay at the lack of regard for human life. I agreed with you last year, and we suggested that there be a Comfort Room or something of that nature be done. The hospital acknowledged that and changes were made and you are still unimpressed. It sounds to me like you are really not interested in how these fetuses are treated, but rather not providing absolutely any medical care or life to them.
Obama had actually not agreed with me the year before. He had agreed with ACLU attorney Colleen Connell that “living is not the same as viability” when he voted against Born Alive in committee and went on to be the sole senator speaking against it on the Senate floor.

And “we” suggested the Comfort Room? I was the one who told him about the Comfort Room four months after the fact, also providing photo evidence.

What was going on? Obama hadn’t been coached had he, perhaps by fellow Trinity United Church of Christ member Dr. Jane Fisler-Hoffman, who also happened to sit on the board of Christ Hospital’s parent company, Advocate Health Care?

Or by Rev. Dr. Ozzie Smith Jr., another Advocate board member and former associate pastor at TUCC under Rev. Jeremiah Wright?

Or by Wright himself, who sat on the board of Christ Hospital’s parent company from 1986-89?

Or by Christ Hospital CEO Carole Schneider, a UCC member?

Or by fellow state Rep. Renee Kosel, a Christ Hospital board member who opposed Born Alive on the House side?

I’d like Sen. Obama to tell us whether he received counsel from any of the aforementioned to oppose Born Alive.

Obama may have thought it impressive to wrap the baby one was killing in a blanket surrounded by silk flowers rather than leave him naked on a steel sink sideboard, but he was right – I was nonplussed. I responded:

What the hospital did was try to make things look better. What it really is, is that the baby is still dead.
I didn’t know it then, but I was describing future presidential candidate Barack Obama’s campaign: attempting to repackage liberal extremism to look comforting.

In this case, however, Obama was pleased with a neonatal Soylent Green killing room, taking American liberal extremism to a new place.”

Henry K. Lee, Chronicle Staff Writer –

(10-13) 17:22 PDT FAIRFIELD — A Fairfield woman was arrested on suspicion of murder Wednesday for allegedly killing her twin 3-year-old daughters, then stabbing and wounding herself and setting the family’s apartment on fire.

Monica McCarrick, 28, was found in the apartment along with her daughters’ bodies by firefighters who initially responded to reports of a water-flow alarm going off in the unit at about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.

While the firefighters were en route, the Fire Department received a second call that the apartment at the Summit at Paradise Valley complex at 3001 North Texas St. was on fire. Neighbors tried to get inside but had to retreat because of the smoke, authorities said.

The girls had suffered unspecified wounds inconsistent with a fire, police said without elaborating. McCarrick had suffered lacerations, said police Lt. Darrin Moody.

The girls’ names have not been released. McCarrick was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire was confined to the family’s apartment.

McCarrick had moved to the apartment within the past couple of months and had no previous contact with police, Moody said. He declined to provide further details about the family.

“Out of respect for the families involved, we will be offering a limited amount of information today,” Moody said at a news conference. “I am sure that you are all compassionate and understand this incident and the tragic nature of what we are dealing with.”

McCarrick will be booked at Solano County Jail on two counts of murder, two counts of child abuse resulting in death, and one count each of arson and destruction of evidence after she is released from the hospital, police said
